The initial poem was written in the airport lounge in Bombay, waiting for the flight back home after my India-trip.
I looked up and EVERYBODY around me including the personnel of the lounge at this moment had a mobile to their ear! It was written in 20 minutes, just flowing out of me. I’m still wonder how it’s understood.
I guess it is a little influenced by the lyrics i wrote for a band called "Jesus and the Gurus". While in India I wrote a total of 15 for them. According to their image back then and their wish that they would rhyme a lot.
Once upon a time The Crossover Blues Band, Switzerland, was looking for a new singer. Come to the casting and you’ll get studio-time (SAE, Zürich), that was the deal. I had to take that chance offered to me by the bassplayer, Adrian Schulthess, the chance for the studio-time, that is. (I blew everything that can be blown during the casting)
From the Crossover Blues Band I had a CD with their songs. Always one version with and one without vocals, so i could train for the audition. At the end of the CD there where 3 songs with no words. So I thought i give it a shot to use my own words and come up with a tune for one of them.
Lyrics:
They say the world is getting smaller,
it’s getting bigger anyway.
The hedge has shrunk as I grew taller
and I see further every day.
(every single day) *
Don’t have to shout to cover distance
but the distance stays the same.
Even to ants we are but big ants,
to higher power might be game.
(we might be game)
Amount and speed of talk increasing.
The media spread so many news.
This is the truth that we are leasing.
I wonder how we’ll pay our dues.
(How we’ll pay our dues.)
Widened horizons are signs of height.
And heights are evidence of previous climbing.
Expansion stays a human right.
And be it for the sake of rhyming.
Within shouting distance from safe shore
but at the bottom of the sea
I cradled life beyond regret.
Now my feet can scrape the ground.
(My followers wipe out the scum)
Now my feet can scrape the ground.
My followers wipe out the scum.
A distance is still a distance
but now is easier to overcome.
