as I said your music just seems to hit the spot with me, If I was asked to give reasons why I like MT besides being able to post my own bands work, you would be at the top of the list, and you are right making videos is very time consuming, takes you away from the music, just finished one and know starting work on the next, could be recording or writing new songs, might take a leaf out of your book soon ha ha

yeah I suppose I do enjoy it a bit , but it does take you away from the music, not just the time making the videos and editing but the mind time thinking about how you are going to represent the music, I am lucky my son sorted me out some great software, but you cant make videos for every song so I do think I will be taking a leaf out of your book

Ha ha great love it sooo fuckin handsome, dick emery would have said
" yes but I like you" .and that’s another thing how many times can you film yourself and keep coming up with different ways to show your self singing or playing, every thing you said about the eyes is true , but I remember closing my eyes and playing SGT PEPPER over and over again the image was in my mind, videos take that away from the listener,

Add ReplyI love the improv sound of this. Paul I guess we like to look at something because we can. I like to see a live performance even if the performer is half-naked and looks like Doctor Doom! When I see you singing or rambling on I feel like I’m in the room with you.....Hell that is scarey! lol

I always practise..That’s why my music sounds...unpractised? DOH!

I do practise with my son because we need to find the best intros, outros etc. but technically you could say that was ’jammin with purpose.’ We have ten ’fifties’ numbers to perform at a local fair. I find the practise fun. I know a lady who used to come out to shows with me as a kid. She was a trained flautist but I would start playing and she would just extemporise through her brother’s echo machine and it sounded so good. She is the only trained musician I’ve met who could do that. She even accompanied my own songs when she hadn’t heard them before. I think she was what you could call an intuitive player. She teaches music and runs chours etc in the Cayman Islands now. She’s visiting next week.

Reminds me of the film "School of Rock"...with Jack Black...if ya havent seen it ...its worth a watch

Great film. Sadly everyone wants to make money from music these days rather than just make music. We had this discussion before so lets not go through it again but in essence, I believe that anything that passes through open air should be free otherwise they’ll charge us for breathing - based on lung capacity.

I knew you’d take it the right way, Atomik but if we were to price quality I think you would be a potentially rich man.

It is all a personal thing. I’m not driven to perform music nor do I crave listening to it all the time. I could understand someone who has chosen to make music a career and has now felt it a necessary chore developing a jaded outlook but not everyone does. It is like any career. I became a teacher because I needed to earn my keep and I loved children. I never got to a stage where I hated my job until I became a school principal and found that role becoming more and more managerial and less about children. I was given the opportunity to quit and then continued working with children but doing things I was good at and enjoyed. The real reward for me is not financial nor receiving plaudits. It is when I see an audience laugh and tap their toes and sing along. My biggest ’reward’ came when a room full of children with cancer were laughing at my antics while their parents were weeping at the back to see their sick little offspring enjoying a few minutes forgetting the pain. I’m not trying to lay it on here, Paul but you would have had to have been there to appreciate how I felt.
There are certain levels of music where the burn-out can be anticipated but I see no reason why you and I need to be despondent. There must have been times when it felt good and there is nothing wrong in retracing your steps and starting again. End of. :-)

Answer is don’t choose a mistress you can’t afford. I know you’re not meaning this sort of price but although I’ve wished for it, I’ve never bought anything near to a top of the range instrument in my life or gone overboard to support needs. Personally, I don’t think it would have made the slightest difference to my ability and would have made me feel concerned that I couldn’t afford to play. In the same way I have never felt the need to take on work I didn’t feel I’d enjoy. Not to say I didn’t take up a challenge. That’s what I love about MT. It invites you to step out of your comfort zone occassionally but not for any reward. Just the personal satisfaction that you tried. That takes me back to that mistress. I may not satisfy her but it was fun trying.
