pushing through the market square - so many smokers sighing
News had just come over - it’s been five weeks now that Monello’s trying
the tobacconist wept and told us - his income is really dying
he cried so much, his face was wet - Then i knew he was not lying.
I’ve smoked camels, silk cut, Gauloises and Embassy
I’d tried all the brands you see on T.V
My lungs they were are knackered, i’d got no breath to spare
I’ve even smoked dog ends I just didn’t care
And all the long thin cigarettes
And all the short stumpy cigarettes
And all the morning cigarettes
And all the somebody elses cigarettes
I never thought i’d so need a cigarette
A man my age stopping smoking - coughs up some interesting phlegm
and if certain colonials don’t stop taking the piss – then I think I might just kill them
up at the top of my left arm - thats where I stick my patches
polished and put away my ashtrays - even thrown away my book of matches
I think i saw you in an ice cream parlour - Drinking milkshakes cold and long
smiling and waving and looking so fine - you don’t smoke so you’re not in this song
And it was cold, and it rained, and I felt I could swear
And i thought of my habit, and i wanted to get back there
my patch, my patch, if you could just talk
I kiss you, you’re beautiful, lets go for a walk.
i’ve been
five weeks without a smoke - five weeks, is no fucking joke
five weeks my brain hurts a lot - five weeks without a blot
it’s been five weeks, seems like five years
