This is a traditional gospel song, dedicated to a neighbour of a friend of mine that he was a blues performer. His name was Screamin Jay Hawkins, I couldn’t know him, unfortunately. Much respect to him, and all the best to his widow.
The song was recorded by pioneers Blind Willie Johnson, Charlie Patton and Josh White. After them, many musicians and bands recorded the song, too, as Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
