Inspired by a late night of drinking with Monello in Folkestone a few years ago I set about making a film with my band SeismicSecret. The project grew into a feature film that I have sent to film festivals all over the world. So far it has been rejected in fourteen separate countries & by over twenty different festivals. Rejections arrive every week or so from those who bother to reply. There are another seventy odd discs gathering dust on the desks of various festival organisers. Oh well, I tried. It is a story I wanted to tell. It took fourteen months to produce & it was a lot of fun with twenty nine original tracks including links & titles. I’m planning to upload part of the film every week or so which will take a few months. There are not many with the stamina/interest/lack of other things to do/etc who could watch the whole thing through from start to finish (2hours 13mins) but I made it because I wanted to make something substantial. I have a sequel in my head, but that will be a comic & likely won’t appear for a number of years. I made the film to fit the soundtrack: the audio tells the story on it’s own. Eventually I’d like the story to be available as an ebook, childrens story, comic & film (the audio is already available) so whatever a persons favourite media is there will be a version. I was having dinner with Monello the other week & I mentioned I was thinking of putting the components onto Youtube & he reminded me of Musicians Together which seemed (& has proved to be) a much better option. Also here will be the short films of the exhibitions of Fred Barnfield, an artist friend of mine. We put on an annual exhibition & use original music for the gallery & film. Fred also made a significant contribution to the making of the feature film with various paintings, original art but most of all enthusiasm & encouragement towards the project.
I played piano/keyboards for many years but it was hearing Karlheinz Stockhausen that inspired me into doing some recording. I’ve been lucky to play with some fantastic musicians who have blundered along with me to make some of my ideas workable. My friend Fred Barnfield is an artist & I put on an exhibition for him on his birthday each year: JULY9. We make a film to record the event & I put some of my music on as background. Fred is remarkable, a true outsider of the art world. If you have the inclination have a look at www.fredbarnfield.com or some of the JULY9 videos here.
